Google getting more nuanced about nofollow?

by Steen Öhman on 14. March 2009

Is Google getting more nuanced about nofollowGoogle has for some years recommended the use of the nofollow tag on links from blogs and on links to non trustworthy sites.

A lot of blogs have nofollow on all links in comments, and blogging software like WordPress does automatically start out with nofollow on all links posted in comments.

New signals from Google?!
The latest video from Matt Cutts (Google) does however propose a more nuanced view on the nofollow topic. Se Matt’s video here.

My interpretation of the video
Well as always, Google’s answer is not 100% clear, but my interpretation is that Google say its ok for bloggers to follow links to trusted partners, but the nofollow tag is good to prevent link spam and when you link to non trusted sites.

Is this a changed view on nofollow?
To me it looks like Google is opening the door to dofollow links in blogs, and therefore improving the value of blogs in terms of pagerank and links.
